The Official State Gazette (BOE) has announced the changes to the restrictions on the movement of trucks imposed by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) for 2024. Although they are largely similar to those of the previous year, it is essential to pay attention to the variations, especially in the Autonomous Community of Navarra, which has its own Resolution due to the transferred powers in matters of traffic.

Increased restrictions and key changes:

1. Prohibition on the Burgos – Basque Country route: The controversial ban on truck traffic between Burgos and the Basque Country during the summer remains in place. On Sundays 4, 18 and 25 August, as well as 1 September, 3 November and 8 December, between 16 and 21 pm, traffic will be restricted on the A-1, AP-1 and N-1. Easter will also see additional restrictions.
2. Increased restrictions in Huesca and other areas: An increase in the number of days of restrictions on the N-230 in Huesca has been recorded, in addition to the limitations during Easter. On the A-3, A-8 in Castro-Urdiales and N-631 in Zamora, the days of restrictions are also extended.
3. Prohibition of overtaking on new sections: The DGT has added stretches where the overtaking ban will apply for trucks with a Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) of 7,5 tonnes. This includes the stretch of the A-62 between kilometres 101 and 151, applying from 15pm to 23pm on 1 April, as well as all Sundays and national or regional holidays in June, July and August. The restrictions also remain in place on the A-49, AP-4 and AP-1, now also in the direction of Burgos.
