The Spanish Association of Industrial Vehicles (Aervi) has published its latest report on the circulating fleet of industrial vehicles (VI) in Spain, in collaboration with AutoInfor. The study highlights two major challenges for the sector: the worrying aging of the park and persistent dependence on diesel.
An aging fleet that compromises efficiency and sustainability
The report analyses in detail the status of industrial vehicles with a GVW exceeding 3.500 kg, buses (coaches, minibuses and microbuses) and commercial vehicles (up to 3.500 kg). In total, the Spanish fleet exceeds 4 million units, playing a key role in logistics, transportation and mobility of goods and people.
Distribution by vehicle type:
- Industrial vehicles: 478.645 units
- Commercial Vehicles: 3.657.073 units
- Buses: 54.309 units
La average age of the park in all segments it is high:
- Industrial: 13,4 years on average, with 44% of units over 15 years old.
- Commercial: 13,7 years, with more than 45% of the fleet exceeding 15 years.
- Buses: 10,5 years on average, and 27% with more than 15 years.
The aging of the park not only affects operational efficiency, but also represents a risk in terms of road safety and environmental sustainability.
An almost total dependence on diesel
The report highlights that the Diesel remains the dominant engine, especially in industrial vehicles, where it represents the 98,2 % of the total. Other relevant data:
- Electric vehicles: just 0,12% of the total number of industrialists.
- Gas vehicles: 1,24%, with moderate but still insufficient growth.
La energy transition towards clean engines remains marginal, making it difficult to meet the sector's climate objectives.
Territorial distribution: Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia lead
In geographical terms, three autonomous communities concentrate almost half of the national park:
- Madrid
- Catalonia
- Andalucía
These three regions group the 43,54% of the total circulating fleetMadrid stands out not only for its volume, but also for having the shorter average age of the park (10,7 years), below the national average in all segments.
