In a recent announcement in Brussels, the Spanish government presented a strategic plan to boost rail freight transport, with the aim of accessing the sixth tranche of the recovery fund, valued at a considerable sum of 8.000 billion euros. The novelty lies in the decision not to implement the tolls that had been initially proposed.

Transport Minister Raquel Sánchez announced this initiative and expressed her optimism regarding the European Commission, which appears receptive to this change. However, it is important to note that this decision is not final, and Sánchez commented: “We are aware of the investment and maintenance needs of the road network. We are exploring alternatives that justify the removal of the tolls agreed upon by the government with the European Union.”

Boosting Rail Freight Transport:

Several measures are being considered, including "rail eco-incentives," the development of "rail freight corridors," and discounts on "railway access charges."
