Bridgestone, the world leader in tyre manufacturing, has announced an unprecedented investment in its plant in Burgos, Spain. With a sum of 207 million euros, this project marks a milestone in the industry, consolidating Spain as an epicentre of technological innovation in tyre production.
The investment, which will be deployed between 2024 and 2030, is intended to revolutionise the factory, boosting the production of premium large diameter tyres, known as High Rim Diameter (HRD), of 18” and above. This ambitious plan not only aims to increase productivity by 20%, but also seeks to position the Burgos plant as one of the company’s largest in Europe.
The technological transformation will focus on three fundamental pillars: automation for greater efficiency, increased vulcanization capacity and the implementation of a high-rise automated warehouse, which will allow greater flexibility in production and a significant increase in tire stock.
This initiative will not only boost the plant’s production capacity by 75% to over 7 million premium tyres, but will also make it one of the leading producers of Bridgestone van tyres in Europe.
In addition to the economic benefits, Bridgestone is committed to sustainability. The modernisation of the plant will result in the reduction of approximately 410 tonnes of CO2 per year, reaching a total of 2.000 tonnes by 2030. This commitment to sustainability is complemented by the installation of more than 20.000 solar panels on the plant roof, ensuring a greener and more sustainable energy supply.
Emilio Tiberio, West Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Bridgestone West, emphasized that this investment plan will not only strengthen the capabilities of the Burgos plant for 2030 and beyond, but will also ensure sustainable employment and strategic evolution towards smart and green manufacturing.
