The 2024 work calendar has already been published in the Official State Bulletin (BOE) and presents an interesting combination of holidays. 2024 will have a total of 12 national holidays, of which 9 will be celebrated jointly throughout the country, maintaining the same number as the current year. In addition, 2 local holidays will be added, thus adding up to a total of 14 holidays in the year.

Common national holidays in 2024 will be as follows:

• January 1: New Year (Monday).
• January 6: Epiphany of the Lord (Saturday).
• March 29: Good Friday (Friday).
• May 1: Labor Day (Wednesday).
• August 15: Assumption of the Virgin (Thursday).
• October 12: National Holiday of Spain (Saturday).
• November 1: All Saints' Day (Friday).
• December 6: Spanish Constitution Day (Friday).
• December 25: Nativity of the Lord (Wednesday).

In addition to the national and regional holidays, there are two local holidays, making a total of 14 holidays per year.

Public holidays in 2024: Make the most of long weekends!

Next year promises to be an exceptional year for enjoying extended weekends in Spain, thanks to the celebration of several public holidays that fall on a Monday or Friday, thus creating the opportunity to have additional days off close to Saturdays and Sundays. This will apply especially to Monday 1 January, Friday 1 November and Friday 6 December.

In most autonomous communities, choosing to celebrate Holy Thursday (March 28) will allow for a four-day long weekend. However, in five communities (Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Navarre, Basque Country and La Rioja), this long weekend will be extended to five days, as Easter Monday (April 1) will also be considered a holiday.

In addition, those workers who have the possibility of taking an additional day off will be able to extend their weekends thanks to the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin (August 15), which falls on a Thursday.

It is important to note that in Catalonia and the Valencian Community an additional recoverable paid holiday has been established, in addition to the 12 national holidays that are not recovered. This means that if workers choose to enjoy this additional day, they must compensate for the hours not worked.

In the case of the Valencian Community, the recoverable paid holiday has been scheduled for Monday, June 24, the celebration of San Juan, while Catalonia will have the option to choose between January 6, April 1, June 24 and December 26 (St. Stephen) as recoverable days.
