Cepsa Changes Name to Moeve and Will Invest 5.000 Billion in Sustainable Energy

Cepsa has announced a historic change: from November, it will operate under the Moeve brand, in a gradual process that will cover its entire network of service stations in Spain and Portugal. This decision marks a new stage for the company, which seeks to position itself as a benchmark in the energy transition in Europe. Moeve plans to invest up to 8.000 billion euros, allocating 60% of this figure to sustainable projects.

Moeve's New Strategy on Sustainable Energy

The change to Moeve responds to the commitment to accelerate the decarbonisation of the company and its customers. More than 4.800 billion euros will be allocated to sustainable energies, including the production of green hydrogen, second generation (2G) biofuels, and the development of infrastructure for ultra-fast electric charging.

New Brand Implementation Plan

Moeve's new identity will be applied progressively to all its service stations starting in November, at a rate of 600 stations per year, until reaching more than 1.800 locations in Spain and Portugal. Moeve will also launch a global advertising campaign in the coming days, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

Green Projects and Strategic Alliances

Since the presentation of its Positive Motion strategy in 2022, Moeve has worked on multiple green projects and sector alliances. Its initiatives include:

  • Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley: A project that hopes to reach 2.000 MW of capacity by 2030, becoming the largest green hydrogen development in Europe.
  • Green Maritime Corridor: It connects the ports of Algeciras, Huelva and Rotterdam, promoting sustainable maritime transport between southern and northern Europe.
  • 2G Biofuels Complex in Huelva: With an annual production of one million tonnes of sustainable fuel, mainly intended for aviation (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO).

Expansion of the Ultrafast Charging Network

Moeve is also expanding its electric charging network, with more than 160 ultra-fast charging points in operation and 400 planned by the end of the year in Spain and Portugal. This network will be key to the electric mobility offer on the Iberian Peninsula.

Divestments and Reorientation towards Sustainability

In line with its new strategy, Moeve has reduced its exposure to fossil assets, selling oil production assets in Colombia, Peru and Abu Dhabi. It has also divested its butane and autogas subsidiary, reaffirming its commitment to a portfolio geared towards sustainable solutions.

CEO's Statement on the Future of Moeve

Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Moeve, has expressed his vision for the company’s transformation: “The world needs sustainable energy solutions. Moeve enables us to face the future with certainty and commitment, expanding our offer of sustainable and affordable energy.” This change, according to Wetselaar, symbolises the next step in Moeve’s history as a leader in the energy transition in Europe.
