How to Start a Truck after a DANA: Tips from a Valencian Mechanic Specializing in Industrial Vehicles

Thousands of Trucks Affected by the DANA in Valencia

The floods that devastated the province of Valencia have left nearly 10.000 trucks damaged or unusable, according to the Fenadismer association. Now, truck drivers and transporters are trying to get their vehicles out of the mud and get them back into operation. However, this process can cause even more damage to the truck if it is not done carefully.

Key Tips from an Expert VI Mechanic

Jacinto Copete, manager of Takumisan, a workshop specialising in industrial vehicles, has shared on its TikTok account how to start trucks correctly after a flood. Here are some of its key tips:

  1. Check the deposits"The first thing we have to do is check that the tanks don't have water," Copete points out.
  2. Check the cabin and components: Raise the cab and check that there is no debris in the fan, belts or compressor.
  3. Inspect the air filter: Make sure the filter is in good condition and free of water or mud.

Copete also demonstrates how to start the engine: "First, give the belts a light tap to dislodge any debris. Then, start the truck," he explains. The mechanic adds that there's no need to worry if some water comes out of the exhaust pipe during startup.
