The Spanish semi-trailer market closes 2024 with a positive balance, consolidating itself as one of the key sectors in transport and logistics. With more than 15.000 units registered, this increase of 6,3% compared to the previous year marks the second best record since 2008.
Analysis of semi-trailer registrations in 2024
In 2024, a total of 15.009 semi-trailers were registered, surpassing the 14.116 units registered in 2023. This growth reflects the strength of the industry, despite the impact of rising operating costs and CO₂-related regulations.
Among the segments highlighted, specialised vehicles such as dump trucks (+37%), tankers (+33%) and dollies (+99%) led the growth. On the other hand, curtainsiders (-2%) and vans (-3%) showed slight declines.
Catalonia leads the semi-trailer market in Spain
By autonomous community, Catalonia leads the registrations with 2.718 units (+18,6%), followed by Andalusia (2.117, +17%) and Aragon (1.780, +11%). These three communities represent more than 40% of the national market. At provincial level, Barcelona stands out with 1.925 units, consolidating its position as the main focus of demand.
The best-selling semi-trailer brands of the year
As for manufacturers, Lecitrailer leads the market with 3.722 units and a 24,8% share, followed by Schmitz Cargo Bull (3.511 units, 23,4%) and Krone (1.080 units, 7,2%). Together, these three manufacturers represent 55,4% of the total market.
Semi-trailer market forecasts for 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, the employers' association Asfares expects slight declines in some segments, although growth is expected in specialized vehicles. This optimism is supported by an expected increase of 2% in transport and 4% in logistics services, despite the challenges posed by rising operating costs.
With an industry increasingly oriented towards export and sustainability, a growth cycle is anticipated for the next three years, which could benefit both the national and international markets.
