81% of Spaniards will travel by road this summer According to a survey carried out by Coches.net, 81% of Spaniards plan to take a road trip during the summer holidays. Only 19% will opt for means of transport such as plane, boat or train. This preference for the car is further reinforced, as almost nine out of 10 people (87,5%) will choose the car as their means of transport, followed by motorhomes and motorcycles.

The reasons and preferences of Spaniards for travelling by car this summer

Reasons for choosing the car as the main option Among the main reasons that motivate respondents to choose the car as a means of transport, comfort stands out, mentioned by 83,3% of participants. Speed ​​is another important reason, with 57,1% of positive responses, followed by a lower cost, with 36,9%.

Vehicle usage and distance preferences

The survey reveals that 70,8% of respondents plan to use their vehicle for the entire holiday period. Those who will only use it at weekends represent 4,2%, while 14,6% will use it only during the week and 10,4% for 15 days.

As for the distances travelled, more than half of the respondents (55,2%) plan to travel more than 1.000 kilometres in their vehicle during their holidays. Furthermore, although only 23,8% plan to leave Spain, 33,3% plan to travel more than 2.000 kilometres, while 31,3% will travel distances of between 500 and 1.000 kilometres. Only 13,5% will travel distances of less than 500 kilometres.

Company and destination preferences

The majority of respondents (77,1%) plan to travel with their family or partner, showing a significant increase compared to the previous year. The number of people planning to travel with friends has decreased (17,1%) compared to last year, as have those who choose to travel alone (5,7%).

As for destination, the beach remains the favourite, with 66,7% of respondents choosing a coastal destination. 32% prefer the mountains, while 27,6% choose cultural or leisure destinations in cities.

This survey shows that Spaniards prefer to travel by car during the summer holidays, highlighting comfort, speed and lower cost as determining factors in their choice.
