Impact of Euro 7 on the commercial vehicle aftermarket

The entry into force of Euro 7 Regulation will mark a before and after in the way of designing, maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles. Until now, European regulations have focused almost exclusively on exhaust gases, but Euro 7 extends its scope to other sources of pollution, such as particles generated by brakes and tires, in addition to imposing stricter durability requirements for emission control systems.

This new regulatory framework will have a direct impact on the after-sales of commercial vehicles, as it will increase the demand for certain spare parts, advanced diagnostic services, and certified components.

Main areas of impact in the aftermarket

1. NOx sensors and monitoring systems

  • Euro 7 requires more rigorous monitoring of pollutants such as NOx and N₂O, with real-world driving (RDE) measurements.
  • Trucks must integrate more precise and durable sensors, which will lead to greater turnover in the after-sales market.
  • There will be a growth in demand for NOx sensors, differential pressure, temperature and diagnostic modules (OBD/OBM), as well as in calibration tools.

2. Aftertreatment systems (SCR, DPF and catalysts)

  • Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and particulate filters (DPF) must remain effective over longer periods of service and for longer periods of time.
  • After sales will see:
    • Greater need for high-quality spare parts.
    • Increase in consumption of AdBlue and dosing systems.
    • Increase in specialized services in DPF cleaning and regeneration.

3. Low-emission brakes and tires

  • For the first time, European regulations establish specific limits for particles derived from brake and tire wear.
  • The aftermarket must be adapted with:
    • Certified “low emission” brake pads and discs.
    • Tires with optimized compounds to reduce abrasion and microplastics.
  • This will open up a new market niche for distributors and specialist workshops.

4. Electronics and telematics

  • Real-time emissions monitoring will be mandatory in many commercial vehicles.
  • Aftermarket will need:
    • Most advanced diagnostic equipment, capable of reading data continuously.
    • First Class software update and electronic calibration.
    • Technical training to interpret and manage telematics data.

Challenges and opportunities for the aftermarket

Challenges

  • Higher maintenance cost for fleets and operators.
  • Greater technical complexity in repairs and diagnosis.
  • Need for ongoing training in regulations and new technologies.

Opportunities

  • Increased demand for regulated and certified spare parts.
  • Growth in diagnostic services and advanced electronics.
  • Positioning of workshops and distributors as strategic partners for fleets in regulatory compliance.
  • Payment Solution new aftermarket products (low emission brakes, certified tires, new generation sensors).

El Euro 7 will profoundly transform the commercial vehicle aftermarket.Increased emissions regulations, brake and tire particle regulations, and mandatory real-time monitoring systems will pose challenges for manufacturers, distributors, and repair shops.

However, they also represent a great opportunity for the after-sales sector, which could consolidate itself as a key player in the transition toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient fleets.
