With the arrival of summer and the major holiday travel periods, the Spanish Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has once again emphasized the importance of traveling with all mandatory safety equipment. Among these, the V16 connected warning beacon stands out, which will officially replace the traditional emergency triangles from January 1, 2026.
The director of the DGT, Pere Navarro, has stressed the need for drivers to have an approved and connected V16 beacon, reminding them that failure to comply with this obligation can result in fines of up to 200 euros.

Goodbye to emergency triangles
For years, warning triangles have been the standard method for signaling a breakdown or vehicle immobilization. However, their placement required drivers to leave their vehicles and walk along the road or shoulder, a situation that poses a significant safety risk.
The connected V16 beacon allows you to immediately report an incident without leaving your vehicle. Simply place it on the roof and activate it to emit a 360° visible light signal and transmit the vehicle's location to the DGT 3.0 platform.
Not all beacons are valid
One of the most common mistakes is thinking that any emergency light is sufficient. Regulations require that the beacon be a certified model and have connectivity to transmit the vehicle's location in the event of an incident.
The old V16 beacons without connection no longer meet the requirements established for mandatory devices and do not replace the system required by the DGT.

Hero Driver LED is a V16 connected beacon certified according to current regulations and prepared to meet the requirements of the DGT.
Furthermore, it incorporates NB-IoT connectivity included without fees or additional costs until 2041, guaranteeing communication with the DGT 3.0 platform throughout the device's lifespan.
- V16 beacon connected and certified.
- Compatible with the DGT 3.0 platform.
- Greater safety by avoiding leaving the vehicle.

An essential item for traveling this summer
Before undertaking any journey, it is advisable to check that the vehicle has all the mandatory elements and that the V16 beacon installed is a connected and approved model.
Having a device certified as a Hero Driver LED not only allows you to comply with regulations, but also increases safety in case of breakdown or accident, especially during the months of highest road traffic.
The DGT's recommendation is clear: traveling with a V16 beacon connected is no longer an option, but an essential measure to protect vehicle occupants and other road users.
