Fire Risk in MAN Trucks

German truck and bus manufacturer MAN has announced the recall of more than 120.000 vehicles fitted with Euro 6c engines due to a potential fire risk. The company has found that these models may suffer damage that could lead to fires in the internal combustion machinery.

According to the statement issued by the manufacturer, MAN points out that problems may be more common in vehicles with high mileage, especially those that have travelled between 400.000 and 500.000 kilometres. The risks increase in older units and those with engine oil contamination.

Contributing Factors

In addition, authorities have identified other factors contributing to the problem, such as driving at high speeds or water infiltration into the engine oil tank. These factors increase the risk of fire, making the inspection crucial to ensure the safety of the affected vehicles.

Review process

To date, more than 60.000 workshop inspections have been carried out, which represents approximately 50% of the affected vehicles. MAN currently has a fleet of around 880.000 vehicles operating in Europe. Of these, around 120.000 trucks and more than 5.000 buses, manufactured between 2016 and 2019, are equipped with the Euro 6c engines involved in this inspection.

MAN is taking proactive measures to address this issue, urging owners of affected vehicles to have them checked as soon as possible. Driver safety and vehicle integrity are top priorities for the manufacturer, which continues to monitor the situation and collaborate with the relevant authorities.
