On June 10, the Spanish Confederation of Bus Transport (Confebús) celebrated World Road Safety Day, a UN initiative aimed at promoting road safety education and reducing traffic accidents. Confebús highlighted the crucial role that buses play in road safety. According to the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), buses have the lowest accident rate among all road transport modes, with only 0,08% of the total.
Not only do buses have an extremely low accident rate, they also contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion, thereby decreasing the chances of collisions. Less traffic in urban areas and during rush hour reduces reckless behaviour and the risk of accidents. However, beyond these benefits, it is essential to recognise the key role played by after-sales services and workshops in keeping these vehicles in good condition.
What Role Do Workshops Play in Road Safety?
Commercial vehicle (CV) workshops are critical to ensuring buses operate safely. These workshops perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance that are essential to detect and correct problems before they become serious failures. Proper maintenance ensures that all bus safety systems, such as brakes, lights, and stability control systems, are functioning properly.

In addition, modern buses are equipped with advanced safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, stability control and driver assistance. Keeping these systems in top condition requires an after-sales service that can perform the necessary updates and calibrations.
Finally, encouraging bus use can have a positive impact on urban development and investment in safer and more efficient road infrastructure. Authorities that see an increase in bus use tend to improve dedicated infrastructure, such as creating dedicated bus lanes, safer stops, priority access to educational institutions, and more advanced traffic control systems.
