An impressive tour
The two eActros 600 electric trucks taking part in the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024” have covered 4.436 kilometres in 12 days, reaching Europe’s northernmost point, the North Cape in Norway, using only electric power. During this journey, the trucks completed the longest leg of the tour on a single battery charge, covering 480 kilometres and still maintaining a range for an additional 30 kilometres. Even in the face of strong winds and rainy weather, the eActros 600 prototypes proved their reliability with every kilometre travelled.
Objectives of the Tour
The main aim of the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024” is for Mercedes-Benz Trucks to gain extensive experience on a variety of routes with different topography and climate zones. To date, the eActros 600s have driven through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. In the near future, they will visit the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Monaco, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, covering more than 13.000 kilometres with a total weight of 40 tonnes.
Advanced Technology and Efficiency
The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours, combined with a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house, enables the eActros 600 to achieve a range of 500 kilometres without the need for intermediate charging. The intention of the tour is to use exclusively public charging stations for recharging the batteries.
Future of Long Distance Transport
Mercedes-Benz Trucks points out that 60% of long-haul truck journeys in Europe are less than 500 kilometres. With this in mind, the company is convinced that the eActros 600 will set new standards and replace most diesel trucks in the important long-haul segment in the long term.
