Mercedes-Benz Trucks will boost Ikea's electric heavy transport in Italy

Ikea Italy has announced the launch of its first fully electrified heavy road transport project, developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Trucks as a leading technology provider in electric mobility and with LC3 Transport as a logistics partner. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the group's sustainability strategy in the Italian market.

The project marks the beginning of a new stage in the electrification of long-distance transport, with the aim of achieving measurable reductions in CO₂ emissions and in the environmental impact of logistics operations.

Phased implementation with the eActros 600

The roadmap includes a gradual implementation of the fleetCurrently, two BEV (battery electric vehicle) trucks are already in operation, and the number of units is expected to exceed [number missing]. ten Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks during third quarter of 2026.

These vehicles will be used for daily services of container transport between the ports of Genoa y La Spezia, with direct connections to the distribution center of Piacenzain addition to making regular deliveries to Ikea stores in northern Italy from this logistics platform.

More than 1,2 million emission-free kilometers per year

Thanks to this electric fleet, the project will allow travel over 1.200.000 kilometers per year with zero emissions, completely eliminating direct CO₂ emissions associated with road transport and contributing significantly to reducing the climate impact of the logistics chain.

This benefit is in addition to the total absence of acoustic emissionsThis is a key advantage for nighttime delivery operations in urban and commercial environments, where noise control is an increasingly important factor.

Strategic collaboration for more efficient logistics

“This is an ambitious project that aims to significantly reduce the climate footprint of our transport in Italy. Thanks to this collaboration, we can define the optimal configuration and find a solution that reduces overall costs, while contributing to a cleaner and quieter environment,” he stated. Ewelina Taylor, global transport manager of the Inter IKEA Group.

For its part, Maurizio PompeiCEO Daimler Truck ItalyHe emphasized that “the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is the result of years of development aimed at transforming road freight transport. Its entry into service in a project of this magnitude confirms that the energy transition in heavy transport is already underway.”

The eActros 600, the cornerstone of the decarbonization of heavy transport

With this initiative, Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Ikea Italia They demonstrate that the electrification of heavy transport is not just a vision of the future, but a real operational solution, capable of combining environmental sustainability, logistical efficiency and economic viabilityA project that reinforces the role of the electric commercial vehicle as a key element in the decarbonization of European transport.
