Following the recent collapse of the Mediterranean Highway (A-7) infrastructure, the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has implemented a series of extraordinary measures to manage the circulation of trucks in Valencia and its metropolitan area. These restrictions seek to minimise mobility problems and ensure the flow of traffic in one of the most important transport corridors in Spain.
What do the night traffic restrictions in Valencia mean?
The resolution prohibits the circulation of goods trucks with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) or maximum combined mass (MMC) of 7.500 kilograms on the roads of Valencia and its surroundings. These restrictions affect all heavy vehicles, except those used to supply essential goods.
Impact on the A-7 motorway and the Port of Valencia
The collapse of the passage at kilometre 336,8 of the A-7 affects traffic in the metropolitan area of Valencia, compromising a road that usually handles more than 77.000 vehicles a day, of which 25% are heavy vehicles. In addition, the Port of Valencia, one of the most important logistics centres in the country, receives and dispatches around 5.000 trucks every day, further complicating the current situation.
Alternative routes for heavy vehicles
The DGT has proposed a series of specific detours to minimise the impact of these measures on long-distance traffic:
- North/South axis: Trucks coming from Aragon and Catalonia must use the AP-2 or A-2 towards Madrid, while those from Madrid and Castilla La Mancha can choose the A-31 and A-30 towards Albacete, Alicante, Murcia and Almería.
- South/North axis: Transports from Andalusia and Murcia will take the AP-7 or A-7 to Albacete and Madrid, while vehicles from Castilla La Mancha, Aragon and Catalonia must use the A-2 or AP-2.
Permitted Hours for Vehicles with Origin and Destination in Valencia
For vehicles originating or destined for the city of Valencia or its metropolitan area, circulation will only be permitted from 22:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., excluding holidays. This measure applies from Monday to Friday and, as an exception, essential transport is exempt from this limitation.

The DGT has expressed its gratitude to transporters for their understanding and collaboration in this unprecedented situation. It also calls on citizens to reduce non-essential travel and use public or shared means of transport.
Temporary Measures and Monitoring of the Situation
These restrictions, in force since 4 November, will remain in place until the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility can authorise a temporary detour on the A-7. The DGT will continue to assess the situation and make adjustments as necessary to restore normal traffic as soon as possible.
