Higher bonuses approved for truck tolls on AP-9 and AP-66 in 2025

The Council of Ministers approved, at its meeting on December 23, a significant increase in toll discounts for heavy vehicles on motorways AP 9 y AP 66. From January 1, 2025, trucks will be able to benefit from discounts from 50% on the AP-9 and the 60% on the AP-66, which represents a significant economic relief for carriers.

Increase in bonuses on the AP-9 for trucks and light vehicles

On the AP-9, heavy vehicles will see an increased bonus for Current 20% to 50%, applicable from the first trip and regardless of the payment system used. In addition, light vehicles will also enjoy an increase in recurring discounts, from 20% to 50%, for those who make more than 20 monthly trips and use electronic toll collection.

Practical example:
A truck that makes 32 monthly trips between A Coruña and Vigo will see its toll costs reduced by 1.412,8 Euros a 706,4 Euros, saving 706,4 euros per month with the new 50% discount.

New conditions for the AP-66: greater savings for transporters

On the AP-66 motorway, which connects Asturias and León, the discount for heavy vehicles increases from 40% to 60%This change seeks to encourage the use of this road instead of the N-630 highway, improving road safety in the Pajares Pass.

Practical example:
A four-axle truck that makes 16 trips a month between Oviedo and Madrid will no longer have to pay 579,2 Euros a 232 Euros, achieving savings of 347,2 euros per month with a 60% discount.

Economic impact of the bonuses on both highways

Since 2021, the Government has allocated more than 141 millones de euros for bonuses on the AP-9, benefiting more than 14 million heavy vehicles y 66 million light vehicles. On the AP-66, the bonuses have generated savings of 13,6 millones de euros for carriers from 2022.

Expected benefits in road safety and competitiveness

These measures not only alleviate carriers' operating costs, but also seek to:

  • Encourage the use of high-capacity highways, reducing traffic on more dangerous secondary roads.
  • Improve road safety, especially in sensitive sections such as the Pajares Pass on the AP-66.
  • Strengthening the competitiveness of road transport, a key sector for the Spanish economy.
