Types of Spare Parts for Trucks

RymeAutomotive Spare Parts

Nowadays, there is a wide range of options when it comes to buying a spare part for a vehicle. In turn, the different types of spare parts for trucks are regulated under a legal framework that covers the vehicle aftermarket and is regulated through four key legal regulations that we mention below.

  • Block Exemption Regulation (EU) No 461/2010, applicable to the motor vehicle sector.
  • Sector-specific guidelines on vertical restraints included in motor vehicle sales and repair and motor vehicle spare parts distribution agreements.
  • Block Exemption Regulation (EU) No 330/2010 on vertical restraints.
  • General guidelines on vertical agreements.

The legal framework governing the conditions of competition therefore confirms that vehicle manufacturers cannot prevent their original equipment suppliers from also supplying their products as spare parts. This will be either via independent distributors or directly to independent or authorised repairers.

Replacement Types

Many vehicle repair processes require, to a greater or lesser extent, the replacement of spare parts. In this regard, different types of spare parts are available on the market to replace the same part:

  • Original spare part: OEM and OES
  • Equivalent quality replacement: IAM
  • Rebuilt Spare Part
  • Recycled spare part

OEM REPLACEMENT: (Original Equipment Manufacturer). This refers to the replacement parts marketed by the vehicle manufacturer. Most of them manufacture the sheet metal and mechanical components for the vehicle intended for the assembly line.
Also, products of the same nature to supply the spare parts warehouses of their brand networks.
This group includes the manufacturer of the element or equipment that supplies the manufacturer's assembly line and simultaneously sends its product (with the manufacturer's name on it) to the latter's warehouses, which are distributed through its dealer networks. Normally, the name or logo of the vehicle manufacturer is engraved or stamped on these parts.

OES SPARE PARTS. (*Original Equipment Supplier*). An original equipment supplier receives an order from the vehicle manufacturer and manufactures and markets the part under its brand and packaging, for example, Bosch, Hella, Jost, Valeo, Mahle… It is usually the same type as the OEM replacement part, but without the vehicle manufacturer's name or logo being engraved on it.

IAM REPLACEMENT: (Independent Aftermarket Manufacturer). Also known as "Equivalent Quality Replacement Parts," these are parts from manufacturers who have no affiliation with vehicle manufacturers. These products compete in the market with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts from the manufacturer's network, at lower prices.

Ryme Automotive has been manufacturing and marketing a wide range of IAM replacement products under its own brand since 1982, which stands out for its excellent quality-price ratio. It is one of the main aftermarket suppliers in Spain and Portugal.
