La V23 signal has been a topic of growing interest in the transport sector, especially among owners and operators of heavy vehicles. However, many questions arise about its application, particularly when we talk about buses. Are they required to install it or not? Here we break down the regulations so that you don't have any doubts.

What is Signal V23 and for Which Vehicles is it Mandatory?

La V23 signal It consists of reflective bands that are placed on the outline of heavy vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, to increase their visibility in low light conditions or in adverse weather situations. This signage helps prevent accidents by making the vehicle visible from a distance of 500 meters.

Vehicles that must use the V23 sign

According to current regulations, the use of the V23 signal is required to:

  • Trucks and freight vehicles that weigh more than 7,5 tonnes and have dimensions greater than 6 meters long and 2,1 meters wide.
  • Trailers and semi-trailers with a maximum mass greater than 3,5 tonnes , provided that they have been registered after the July 10, 2011.

Important: Reflective tapes must comply with the ECE 104 regulation, ensuring its durability and visibility in all conditions.

Is it mandatory to place the V23 sign on a bus?

The answer is No.. The Bus are not required to display the V23 sign. This sign is specifically designed for goods vehicles and does not apply to motor vehicles used for the transport of people, such as buses, although it could be installed voluntarily.

Cases in which the V23 Signal is Prohibited

In addition to not being mandatory on buses, the V23 sign is forbidden in:

  • Motor vehicles that have 8 seats or less, not counting the driver's.
  • Trailers and semi-trailers with a maximum mass less than 0,75 tonnes .
