Swiss company orders Volvo for largest ever electric truck order
Swedish company Volvo Trucks has surprised the market by announcing its largest electric truck sales agreement to date. The leading European truck manufacturer has signed a letter of intent with Holcim, one of the world’s leading construction solutions providers, to supply 1.000 electric trucks by 2030. This historic order marks an important precedent, as it is the first time that Volvo has reached a triple-digit figure for electric trucks agreed with a single customer.
Volvo and Holcim collaborate to drive the transition to net zero emissions
Volvo Trucks, known for its leadership in electric truck manufacturing in Europe, is proud to partner with Holcim on this ambitious project. Holcim, a Swiss company recognized globally for its construction solutions, is committed to decarbonizing its operations and has set a goal of achieving 30% zero-emission heavy-duty trucks by 2030.
Jan Jenisch, President and CEO of Holcim, highlights the importance of collaboration across value chains to achieve the transition to net zero emissions. The partnership with Volvo will enable Holcim to decarbonise the logistics of its European operations by implementing electric fleets. Both companies share a common vision of driving climate action and are founding members of the First Movers Coalition (FMC), a business coalition that drives early markets for clean technologies across various sectors.
Volvo's electric trucks will help reduce CO2 emissions
Holcim's order for 1.000 electric trucks from Volvo represents a significant step towards reducing CO2 emissions. According to estimates by both companies, replacing the current 1.000 diesel trucks (Volvo FH model) with electric trucks will prevent the emission of up to 50.000 tonnes of CO2 each year. These electric trucks will use 'green' electricity during their operations, contributing to more sustainable and environmentally friendly transport.
The first batch of electric trucks, consisting of 130 Volvo FH and Volvo FM models, will be delivered during the last quarter of 2023 and throughout 2024 in strategic markets such as France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. These electric models, which are part of Volvo Trucks' largest range, can transport loads of up to 44 tonnes and have a range of 300 kilometres, depending on the version.
Volvo Trucks continues to consolidate its leading position in the electric truck market, and this agreement with Holcim further strengthens its reputation as a trusted manufacturer in the sustainable transport industry. Both companies are committed to the Science Based Targets initiative and demonstrate their commitment to reducing emissions and promoting clean technologies in the private sector.
